FAQs

What do we bring?

Sack Lunch        Snacks        Bottled Beverage
Sturdy Shoes        Long Pants        T-Shirt
Fleece or other Warm Jacket        Sunscreen Applied

When do we arrive?

Between 8:30 and 9:00 for morning or full day camps, 12:00-12:30 for afternoon camps.  Kids will play in the petting zoo until everyone arrives.  Parking is tight, so be ready to dash.  You will see the instructors at the picnic tables.  Go there to sign the log (every day) and drop your child's belongings.  Later the instructors will give them an orientation so they know where to find the restroom and storage.

When do I pick up?

12:00-12:30 or 3:30-4:00   Most kids will be near the petting zoo.  As I said, this is our backyard and they are welcome to explore the grounds.  You might find them looking through the fence at the horses giving them a little snack.  When you arrive a little earlier, you can take pictures.

Do I just drop off my child?

This is a drop off camp.  Your children need to give all of their attention to their instructors.  If you want to familiarize yourself and your child, come the day before to see how camp operates.   We also have family horseback rides  and parent-led pony rides, if you wish to do something with your child.

How do I book camp and what is the refund policy?

Register and you will be contacted for payment information.  You must pay in advance and in full for any days you desire.  Space is limited.  There are no make up days (this includes illness), no refunds, no exceptions.

What if it rains?

Camp goes on.  We ride in the sprinkles, play games in the cozy kitchen during the gushers or make S'mores.  So bring wet weather gear if you like.  But you don't have to pick them up early.

Vail Stables has been family owned and operated as a riding stable, horse and pony camp since 2002.    Everyone involved does it for the love.  The love of the children, animals and the outdoors.

Safety is our priority.  For example, we provide equestrian helmets that fit well.  The horses are gentle and friendly, thoughtfully selected to suit your child(ren)'s ability.  Instructors really care about your child(ren) and the animals.  The tack fits both the horse and your child.  Finally, the ranch dogs accompany the camp children on the mountain trails.

Our schedule is ultra flexible allowing everyone to register for one day or multiple days throughout the summer.

If you have children that are not interested in horses or ponies, we have critter club which is a half day or all day camp with the petting zoo animals.  We've watched many children hold the same kitten all day long!

Non-animal lovers can join nature camp where they will build a tree fort throughout the summer, explore the creek, and play hide and seek in the forest.

We think of the stables as our back yard and we invite you and your children to come over and play.  It's supervised freedom in the great outdoors.

The location is ideal for parents that need a nearby kid's activity when they want to golf, hike visit the spa or shop while the kids have a day of adventure.  It's a promise they will leave the ranch dirty and tired.  After all, they perform many chores throughout the day!
