The Ideal Candidate will have experience working with a team to accomplish routine tasks, to standard, on a daily basis. We are not looking to train anyone to do common, basic chores. We seek someone who is a motivated, organized self- starter who is committed to learning and growth.

Qualities and Characteristics: Self starter, motivated, take-charge, independent, honest, integrity, loyal, articulate, communicative, sense of humor, organized, efficient, punctual, confident, firm, decisive, non- judgmental, polite, pleasant, non-smoker, conscientious, practical, spontaneous, thorough, diligent, intelligent, mature, problem solver, compassionate, good listener, attentive, patient, disciplined, thoughtful, flexible, multi- task.  Big on MEsponsibility.

The duties will include: Arriving on time, checking into the payroll app, herding horses into the catch pen, haltering correctly, grooming well, saddling and bridling up to 60 horses by 8:00am, keeping the area clear of manure, greet guests, help the corral boss coordinate rides, guide, service the guests at a high level delivering added value, unsaddling and clearing the area of manure one last time! There will be added duties in the saloon area and with the goats after the last ride.

Horse Care
~Treat the horses, trapped in our environment, with care and respect.

~Horses tied to the rail are at our mercy. They cannot escape the elbow jabs, pushes, slaps, pokes, kicks, and extreme tightening of a cinch delivered by a human caregiver. Treat the horses with kindness and a soft hand, but will call out their fellow employees not treating the horses appropriately.

~Horses in pens are are not in control of adequate water. The Ideal Employee will monitor the water levels, and water equipment, automatic waterers, tanks, hoses and hydrant position to keep tanks full and to keep pens from flooding.

~Horses in pens are not in control of the amount of feed available. The Ideal Employee will be sure the horses have an appropriate amount of feed available each day.

~Horses need salt and minerals. Be mindful of salt blocks and minerals in the feeders.

~Horses will be well-groomed to prevent sores and to be shiny, healthy and well cared for at Vail Stables.

~Horses will be bridled and unbridled with care. No teeth clunking or ears bent. Soft hands when tying up the reins.

~During the day, Constantly check the herd for low hanging reins, dragging lead ropes, rolling horses and saddles hanging off the side, etc.

~Fly repellent will be applied frequently.

Other Important Things

~Boots in the corral at the scheduled start time.

~Always covers their shift.

~Rides return within 1-3 minutes of expected return time.

~Kitchen kept tidy.

~Keeps TP stocked in bathroom and seat wiped.

~Keeps the deck and office swept.

~Greets guests and chats with while waiting around. Guests treated like family and friends.

~Trail maintenance.

~The Ideal Employee feels safe and communicates.

~Everyone has the privilege to voice how they feel and ideas they may have about the systems.

Pay

$9.54/hour to $13.74/hour depending on chosen tasks, with very generous tips from satisfied guests.

Schedule

7am-4 or 5 or 6pm.
